Job Summary
As an Instructor of Audio Recording Technology, you will play a vital role in advancing our institution's tradition of excellence in academics and student success. You will be responsible for teaching courses in audio recording technology, designing curricula, and creating/collecting materials for classes related to audio, MIDI, and synthesis. This role requires a strong and diverse skillset in relevant areas, including analog and digital recording, MIDI hardware, and software such as Logic and Pro Tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching and Curriculum Development:
- Design curricula and create/collect materials for all audio, MIDI, and synthesis classes.
- Teach students using a variety of effective methodologies and provide engagement and support activities that encourage student learning.
- Develop and use a syllabus for each course or laboratory within college, discipline, and departmental guidelines.
- Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course objectives and inform them of their progress in a timely manner.
- Facilities and Resource Management:
- Oversee all audio facilities in the department, including software and hardware.
- Monitor adjunct electronic music instructors to ensure effective education.
- Assist with the routine maintenance of instructional laboratories.
- Academic Advising:
- Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
- Provide advice and assistance to students regarding instructional or program-specific issues.
- Make presentations on the academic field or program, including its subject matter, objectives, and opportunities for further study and careers.
- Professional Development and Service:
- Establish annual objectives for professional growth in consultation with the department chair.
- Participate in the evaluation process for self, department, and college.
- Engage in institutional service activities, including opening week events, conference days, and commencement exercises.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must possess the following qualifications:
- Education: Associate's degree or higher required. Master's Degree in Music, Audio Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Applicants without a degree must submit a portfolio demonstrating exceptional contributions to the field.
- Experience: Three (3) years of full-time work experience in a related field required. Two (2) or more years in college or continuing education instruction preferred. Proven record of student recruitment and retention experience preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency with analog and digital recording and mixing, software such as Logic and Pro Tools.
- Facility with operating MIDI hardware, including synthesizers, samplers, mixers, and effect devices.
- Subsystem level understanding of audio and MIDI technology and experience in audio and MIDI studio design, implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.
- Good organizational and planning skills.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment.
