Job Summary: Director of Food Safety & Quality
As the Director of Food Safety & Quality at UNREAL, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring our products consistently meet and exceed rigorous safety and quality standards. You will be responsible for leading the strategic development, implementation, and maintenance of all food safety and quality programs, fostering a culture that prioritizes consumer well-being throughout the organization. This is a remote position with a preference for candidates located in the Greater Boston Area, and it includes up to 30% regular travel across North America.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership in Food Safety and Quality: Spearhead the development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive food safety and quality programs, aligning with UNREAL's high-growth trajectory and commitment to excellence.
- Cultural Advocacy: Promote a food safety and quality-focused culture within the organization, serving as the primary advocate for consumer well-being and product integrity.
- Relationship Management: Oversee all food safety and quality-related relationships with internal and external partners, including co-manufacturing facilities, ingredient suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
- Auditing and Compliance: Implement and manage a robust co-manufacturing and supplier physical auditing program, ensuring compliance with relevant food safety regulations, such as FDA, SQF, and FSMA.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of evolving food safety regulations and guidance, implementing necessary updates at UNREAL to maintain compliance and certification.
- Recall Planning and Management: Lead recall planning and management efforts, both internally and in conjunction with external parties, to ensure prompt and effective action in the event of a recall.
- Team Leadership: Lead and build a team that supports quality, safety, and commercialization activities, driving successful product launches and maintaining UNREAL's high standards.
Essential Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Experience: A minimum of 7 years of experience in food safety and quality assurance management within a food manufacturing environment.
- Regulatory Compliance: Experience with regulatory compliance as it relates to FDA, SQF, and FSMA regulations.
- Certifications: PCQI certification is required.
- Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite, with familiarity with TraceGains document management software being a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Industry Passion: A passion for natural and Better-For-You (BFY) food products, aligning with UNREAL's mission and values.
- Travel and Auditing: Ability to travel up to 30% of the time across North America to audit co-manufacturing facilities, ingredient suppliers, and raw material suppliers.
- Independent Work: Proven ability to work independently with sound judgment, identifying and resolving problems effectively.
- Communication: Effective and professional communication skills, with the ability to interact with internal and external contacts.
