Key Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas to maintain public safety and respond to emergency situations
- Conduct investigations, gather evidence, and interview witnesses and suspects
- Enforce laws and regulations, including traffic laws and ordinances
- Provide assistance to the public, including responding to calls for service and providing information
- Participate in training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge
- Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and community organizations to achieve department goals
- Maintain accurate records and reports, including incident reports and arrest records
Essential Qualifications
- High school graduation or equivalent (California high school equivalency certificate or GED)
- Valid California Driver's License
- Vision: 20/50 corrected to 20/20, each eye, with normal color perception
- Age: At least 21 years of age at time of application
- Citizenship: Must be a United States citizen or resident alien who has applied for citizenship one year prior to filing for position
- Physical Requirements: Applicant must be in good physical condition and free from disability or defects, with height and weight in proper proportion subject to determination by the City medical examiner
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., law enforcement, criminology)
- Previous law enforcement experience or military service
- Bilingual or multilingual skills
- Experience working with diverse populations or communities

Compensation and Benefits

- Competitive salary: $7,280 per month during Police Academy training, increasing to $7,644 per month upon graduation
- Health care coverage: City contributes up to $1,470.96 per month for family health care coverage
- Uniform allowance: one-time payment of $850
