Job Summary
As a Senior Social Media Specialist at ESPNw, you'll be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive social media strategy that drives engagement, growth, and brand awareness across multiple platforms, including Instagram, X, TikTok, Facebook, and Snapchat. You'll work closely with internal partners to create compelling content that resonates with ESPNw's audience, while also collaborating with peers and social designers to assign and manage content planning for various sports and events.
Key Responsibilities
- Ideate, create, and post high-quality content (visual, video, text) that is optimized for social platforms, with a focus on women's sports and culture.
- Manage content planning for various sports and events, assigning work to select peers and social designers.
- Collaborate with internal partners to make social content compelling to a broad audience.
- Edit and approve social posts in real-time for journalistic accuracy, relevance, and tone.
- Maintain proficiency in social media trends and best practices, staying ahead of the curve in a rapidly evolving landscape.
- Analyze performance of social content, incorporating and sharing insights with the team regularly.
- Explore user-generated content opportunities to tap into new trends and reach new audiences.
- Generate new ideas for building account engagement and growth across all platforms and accounts, with a special emphasis on the ESPNw brand.
- Work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to cover sports events and meet the demands of a fast-paced social media environment.
Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you'll need to possess a unique blend of skills, experience, and passion for social media and sports. The ideal candidate will have:
- A minimum of 3 years' experience working in a fast-paced social media environment with content creation responsibilities or relevant experience.
- A minimum of 2 years' experience using video editing software (e.g., Final Cut, Premiere) and photo editing software (e.g., Photoshop, InDesign).
- A deep understanding of how to connect with and grow an audience of women's sports fans across all sports, taking into account elements like voice and representation that are uniquely important to female fans and athletes.
- Skilled in social media comprehension and execution across multiple social media platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, X, Facebook, and Snapchat.
- Excellent news judgment and verbal/written communication skills.
- A strong understanding of journalistic standards and the ability to work quickly and juggle multiple tasks during a typical workday.
- The ability to analyze and apply data to decision-making, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for storytelling.
- An appreciation and understanding of popular culture that contributes to an understanding of the tastes of ESPN's social media followers.
- Knowledge of current sports, including teams, players, storylines, and forward-facing media personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications will give you a competitive edge:
- Previous brand voice and account launch management experience.
- Experience using motion graphics or visual effects software (e.g., After Effects).
- Advanced knowledge of the latest social media and tech trends, with a keen eye for innovation and a willingness to experiment.
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Journalism, Communications, Media, or a related field.

- A competitive salary, with a hiring range of $81,918 to $109,890 per year in New York, NY, and $78,146 to $104,830 per year in Los Angeles, CA, based on a 40-hour work week.
