Job Purpose and Scope
The Senior Product Manager at blithequark is responsible for assessing market needs and inspiring cross-functional product teams to find the fastest way to achieve value around those needs. You'll work closely with teams of developers, designers, and business partners to support in-depth business reviews, communicate and present across all levels of the organization, and drive cross-functional product teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy & Planning (50%):
- Empathize with and understand the end-user deeply to determine the fastest path to deliver value.
- Translate business goals and end-user needs into product strategy, communicating direction and product priorities to the development team, other matrixed teams, and third-party partners.
- Identify goals, metrics, and analytics to determine product value and continually make recommendations and refinements to the product backlog based on learnings.
- Manage and groom the product backlog, making future decisions based on the value that will be delivered.
- Partner with Finance to understand financial needs and assist in creating business plans for new opportunities.
- Monitor research and the competitive landscape to recommend the best solutions and ensure products remain or become best-in-class.
- Delivery & Execution (20%):
- Formulate, test, and refine assumptions and hypotheses through user research and testing.
- Document, review, and ensure that all quality and change control standards are met.
- Create, prioritize, and accept user stories, incorporating them into release planning.
- Make product decisions that drive value on a daily basis.
- Identify and consider pros, cons, issues, obstacles, dependencies, and value associated with features and enhancements.
- Participate in standups, iteration planning sessions, product demos, and retrospectives.
- People (30%):
- Foster collaboration with team members to drive value and identify and resolve impediments.
- Act as a proponent of modern software development practices.
- Advocate for the end-user and stakeholders by becoming associated with the product and empathizing with user needs.
- Work with the product team to continuously assess progress, disseminate lessons learned, and understand next steps.
- Manage cross-functional team and stakeholder expectations to execute on product strategy.
- Guide more junior team members in strategy, alignment, analysis, and execution tasks.
Essential and Preferred Qualifications
To excel in this role, you'll need:
- A bachelor's degree in a field related to the job or equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years of relevant work experience, preferably in a Product Manager role within a modern software development-based enterprise environment.
- Experience with modern software development product management practices and agile methodologies, specifically extreme programming (XP) principles.
- Proficiency in working in a fast-paced, fluid environment and communicating with and influencing functional and technical team members at all levels.
- Strong skills in creating, prioritizing, and accepting user stories, conducting user research and testing, and identifying goals, metrics, and analytics to measure product value.
