Job Overview: Principal UX Designer - Customer Experience
The Insulet UX team is seeking a highly skilled and customer-obsessed Principal UX Designer to join its team. As a Principal UX Designer, you'll play a critical role in defining, articulating, building, and championing the future vision of Insulet's products, with a focus on simplifying the lives of people touched by diabetes. You'll be responsible for leading product UX design for one of the major areas of Insulet's global product suite, partnering with cross-functional teams to develop user-centered design solutions that meet customer needs and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead product UX design for a major area of Insulet's global product suite, facilitating the UX design process from research to implementation.
- Define the overall UX design vision for products, features, or experiences, working closely with product managers and user researchers to understand customer needs and business objectives.
- Take a user-centered design approach, rapidly prototyping and testing designs with the User Research team, and iterating based on feedback and data insights.
- Collaborate with product and business partners to develop a shared vision and lead the design process to deliver on those objectives.
- Influence UX design and product direction through the development of frameworks that simplify product user and customer experiences.
- Partner with other design leaders to improve design quality and continue growing as a design leader, mentoring junior designers and guiding them in creating intuitive and engaging product experiences.
- Communicate design rationale across teams with clarity and influence, presenting UX design work to partners and executive leadership for review, feedback, and sign-off.
Required Leadership/Interpersonal Skills & Behaviors
- Ability to present UX design work to partners and executive leadership in a clear and concise manner.
- Measure the success and effectiveness of UX innovations, collaborating with partners and product managers to understand detailed requirements and design complete user experiences.
- Extensive experience using UX design standard methodologies to design solutions, with a deep understanding of mobile-first and adaptable design.
- Ability to break down big design projects into clear results needed while working in agile sprint teams, advocating for design thinking processes and solutions within the production team and with partners.
- Ability to lead UX strategy in a matrixed organization, inspiring and mentoring UX practitioners and partners, and leading projects throughout the planning, design, and development cycle.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Deep expertise in design tools such as Figma, Framer, Sketch, FigJam, Adobe Creative Cloud, JIRA, Confluence, and Miro.
- A thoughtful and exquisite online portfolio showcasing a proven track record of innovation and strategy work within the mobile ecosystem.
- Ability to think systemically and holistically about product ecosystems and user needs, navigating ambiguity and driving innovation across platforms.
- Deep passion for user-centered design and advocacy for the customer experience, with a track record of using user research and data for decision-making.
- Extraordinary aesthetic sense for beautiful designs, paying attention to details and striving for simplicity at the core of Insulet's brand.
- Expert storyteller and influencer, with a proven track record of providing and effectively communicating strategic and tactical recommendations based on data to all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in consumer products design within large ecosystems.
- Familiarity with medical device development processes.
Education and Experience
- BS in Design, Graphic Design, HCI, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in global consumer projects from design strategy through execution.
- 10+ years of mobile app and customer experience design experience.
- 5 years working in an Agile environment.
