Volunteer: UX Audit for a Health Literacy Nonprofit

Apply Now
This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro bono connections. We want a UX audit of our website (healthed4everyone.org) with prioritized recommendations and an implementation roadmap. Our nonprofit creates free health education resources that help people understand medical information and navigate the healthcare system. We want to make sure our website design supports that mission by making it easy for users to find, understand, and use our resources. We're looking for a volunteer to: - Review our website's navigation, information architecture, and design - Identify usability and accessibility problems - Prioritize recommendations by impact on users - Create wireframes or sketches for the top 2-3 changes - Provide an implementation roadmap that includes what skills are needed for each change and a suggested order for tackling them Our mission is to help people understand, manage, and advocate for their health. We create free resources that translate medical information into usable knowledge, covering both health conditions and how to navigate the healthcare system. But our content only helps people if they can find it, understand it, and use it. Right now, we're not sure our website design is doing that as well as it could. A UX audit will help us identify barriers we can't identify ourselves. Better navigation means someone anxious about a medical appointment can find our preparation guides. Clearer information architecture means a caregiver researching blood pressure can discover we also have resources on talking to doctors. Improved accessibility means our resources actually reach everyone, not just people who can navigate a confusing layout. Our executive director will be available to answer questions and support the volunteer throughout the project. He built our current website and set up our analytics, so he can provide context on our current structure and decisions. He's responsive, flexible on scheduling, and open to honest feedback about what's not working. We know our website can be improved but aren't sure where to start. Once we have the roadmap from this project, we'll use it to guide our next steps, whether that's implementing changes ourselves, drawing on our volunteer pool, or fundraising for professional help. We're currently working with a Taproot volunteer on another project, so we're familiar with the process and what makes a good partnership. HealthEd 4 Everyone Mission: HealthEd 4 Everyone empowers everyone to understand and navigate their health with confidence. Almost half of Americans struggle with health literacy, and it gets harder when you're sick, scared, or worried about a loved one. We create free health education resources that explain what medical information means, what you can do about it, and ways to get the care you need. Our resources cover both health conditions and navigating the healthcare system, from preparing for appointments to knowing when something is an emergency. All resources are physician-reviewed and designed to work for people with different abilities and learning needs. Apply Now Apply Now
