Position Overview – Senior Document Management Engineer (Remote)
We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated Senior Engineer to join our Document Management & Customer Communication Team. In this pivotal role, you will design, build, and evolve enterprise‑grade document solutions that power both internal operations and external customer experiences. You will collaborate with product managers, business stakeholders, and fellow engineers to ensure that our document platforms are scalable, reliable, and aligned with the strategic goals of arenaflex.
Key Responsibilities
- Document Platform Architecture: Lead the design and implementation of end‑to‑end document workflows, including creation, storage, retrieval, and distribution of insurance‑related content across all states in which arenaflex operates.
- Tool Stewardship: Utilize enterprise document management tools (e.g., Smart Communications, OpenText) to build and maintain a robust, searchable enterprise document library.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner with product managers, UX designers, and other engineering squads to translate business requirements into technical specifications and scalable solutions.
- Performance Monitoring & Optimization: Track platform performance metrics, conduct root‑cause analyses, and iterate on features to improve latency, throughput, and overall user experience.
- Full Lifecycle Management: Own initiatives from ideation through deployment, including requirement gathering, design, development, testing, release, and post‑launch support.
- Engineering Excellence: Champion best practices, code quality standards, and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines; mentor junior engineers on technical and professional growth.
- On‑Call & Incident Response: Provide production support for document services, respond to alerts, troubleshoot incidents, and ensure rapid remediation to maintain high availability.
- Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Stay current with emerging technologies in cloud, DevOps, and content management; propose and prototype new approaches that drive business value.
Essential Qualifications
- Document Management Expertise: Minimum 2 + years of hands‑on experience developing solutions with enterprise content management (ECM) platforms such as Smart Communications, OpenText, or comparable tools.
- Programming Proficiency: Strong command of at least one modern language—Java, .NET, or Python—and ability to write clean, maintainable code.
- Cloud Experience: Demonstrated experience (2 + years) building and operating services on AWS, Azure, or another major cloud provider, including familiarity with IAM, storage, and serverless patterns.
- Architecture & Design Skills: Proven track record designing complex document platforms, including data modeling, API design, and integration patterns.
- Orchestration Knowledge: Understanding of workflow/orchestration services (e.g., AWS Step Functions, Azure Logic Apps, or similar) to coordinate multi‑step document processes.
- Analytical Acumen: Ability to estimate effort, assess risk, and make data‑driven decisions that balance technical debt with business priorities.
- Communication Excellence: Strong oral and written communication skills; comfortable presenting technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications & Nice‑to‑Haves
- Experience with DevOps tooling, such as Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, or CloudFormation.

- Previous exposure to insurance or regulated industries, understanding of compliance considerations (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).
- Certification in cloud platforms (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, etc.).
- Hands‑on experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing suites.
Core Skills & Competencies for Success
- Problem‑Solving Mindset: Ability to dissect complex challenges, propose elegant solutions, and iterate quickly based on feedback.
