Key Responsibilities
- Drive Business Impact: Identify high-impact business opportunities through data exploration and model prototyping, translating business problems into scientific formulations that drive growth and innovation.
- Build and Productionize Models: Develop, productionize, and operationalize machine learning models and pipelines at scale, leveraging data mastery to uncover insights and formulate structured frameworks to classify and interpret user behavior.
- Advanced Techniques: Utilize deep learning techniques for advanced feature engineering and model building, such as modeling user behavior sequences and detecting anomalies effectively.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with operations and product teams to define and collect labels for model training, optimize manual review effectiveness, and build self-satisfiable verifications that scale.
- Innovate and Experiment: Apply and experiment with state-of-the-art innovations to uplevel Airbnb's technical approaches, driving progress and staying ahead of the curve.
- Communicate and Present: Regularly present work internally to technical, engineering, and product stakeholders, iterating and generating excitement on roadmap progress.
- Publish and Engage: Publish externally and engage with the scientific community to advance Airbnb's standing and reputation.
Essential Qualifications
- Advanced Degree: Hold an advanced degree in a quantitative field, such as a Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, or Mathematics.
- Industry Experience: Bring 4+ years of relevant industry and/or academic experience developing scientific frameworks, building machine learning models, and implementing advanced experimentation techniques.
- Technical Skills: Be proficient in Python and familiar with modern frameworks like PyTorch and TensorFlow for hands-on work and advanced data analysis in SQL at scale.
- Machine Learning Expertise: Possess a deep understanding of Machine Learning best practices, algorithms, and domains, including natural language processing, computer vision, personalization, and anomaly detection.
- Collaboration and Communication: Demonstrate the ability to collaborate with software engineers, understand complex systems, and communicate clearly and effectively to cross-functional partners of varying technical levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a Quantitative Field: Hold a Ph.D. in a quantitative field, such as Computer Science, Statistics, or Mathematics.
- Experience with Large-Scale Systems: Have experience working with large-scale systems, including data warehousing, distributed computing, and cloud-based infrastructure.
