As a Data Entry Specialist, you will be an integral part of FedEx's Dataworks team, focused on driving engineering innovation and delivering key business initiatives. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, acting as a "universal translator" between IT, business, programmers, and data scientists to deliver value. Your primary responsibilities will include working on various aspects of the Dataworks platform, governing the ingestion, transformation, and pipelining of data resources.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Understand in-depth both business and technical issues that Dataworks aims to solve.
- Build tools, platforms, and pipelines to enable teams to clearly and neatly analyze data, build models, and drive decisions.
- Scale from "PC scale" to "cluster scale" issues, in terms of both infrastructure and problem structure and methodology.
- Collaborate across teams to drive the generation of data-driven operational insights that translate into high-value streamlined solutions.
- Deliver substantial value quickly, working with various teams of different backgrounds and disciplines.
- Establish best practices for future reuse as open, reusable patterns, templates, and code bases.
- Cooperate with senior technologists from the broader project and beyond FedEx (partner environments and clients) to create collaborations and ensure smooth solutions to downstream operational systems.
Essential and Preferred Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A strong technical background in computer science, programming, database systems, and distributed systems.
- A sharp understanding of the transportation and logistics space, with the ability to identify high-opportunity areas and design approaches and solutions that generate and capture value.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Azure, with experience in building CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated expertise in creating and operationalizing functions and solutions, including under near-real-time high-volume streaming circumstances.
- Hands-on development skills, with the ability to work at the code level and help troubleshoot hard-to-determine issues.
- A proven ability to deliver technical projects, often working under tight deadlines to deliver value.
- An "engineering" mindset, ready to make fast, pragmatic decisions to improve performance and accelerate progress.
- Comfort with working with distributed teams on code-based deliverables, using version control systems and code reviews.
- DevOps expertise, including coding, scripting, database, YAML, JSON, and IaC (Terraform).
- Demonstrated mastery working with some of the following common languages and tools:
- Flash (Scala and PySpark), HDFS, Kafka, and other high-volume data tools.
- SQL and NoSQL storage tools, such as MySQL, Postgres, Cassandra, MongoDB, and ElasticSearch.
- Pandas, Scikit-Learn, Matplotlib, TensorFlow, Jupyter, and other Python data tools.
