About the position
Join a mission-critical program supporting national security as a Network Engineer. We are seeking an experienced and driven network professional to support a large-scale, fast-paced operational program. This role encompasses enterprise network support, systems integration, technical documentation, and the deployment of advanced capabilities. As a Network Engineer, you will collaborate with a high-performing agile team to design, implement, and maintain secure, resilient network infrastructure that supports ongoing mission operations and the introduction of new technologies.
Responsibilities
• Provide enterprise network support, working closely with IT service provider teams to ensure customer requirements are met by the evolving LAN/WAN architecture.
• Participate in the creation and ongoing maintenance of network documentation to assist with incident resolution.
• Execute vulnerability assurance and information security scanning for equipment suites in accordance with System Security Plans.
• Rapidly and accurately identify and remediate IAVAs (Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts).
• Propose, design, test, and install new capabilities in the network environment.
• Oversee the development and maintenance of technical data such as rack elevations, installation instructions, and as-built designs.
• Respond to operational issues while off duty, on an on-call basis.
• Some travel required.
Requirements
• At least 5 years of in-depth experience with hardware/software from Cisco Systems.
• At least 5 years of in-depth experience with hardware/software from Palo Alto Systems.
• Experience providing analysis, root cause diagnosis, and troubleshooting for routers, switches, and firewalls.
• In-depth understanding of IP subnetting, VLANs, and OSI layers.
• Experience with various networking vendor products (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.).
• Solid understanding of different physical mediums (copper, multimode/single mode fiber, physical connector types such as TS, CS, CL, 54JR, 11JR, etc.).
• Ability to respond to operational issues while off duty, on an on-call basis.
• Some travel required.
Nice-to-haves
• Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field and at least 8 years of related work experience.
• Experience with KG-175 and/or KG-250/KG-255 configuration and deployment.
• Experience with VINE/GEM One.
• Experience with SolarWinds or similar network monitoring applications.
• Experience with VMWare 7 or higher usage and network configuration.
• Experience with technologies such as Cisco (Nexus/Catalyst/ASA/ISR/XE/ASA/Firepower, ISE), McAfee Sidewinder, Palo Alto, Juniper, F5, IPSEC, NAT, SCP, TFTP, BGP, vPC.
• Experience with Cisco Call Manager server configuration and troubleshooting, Cisco Meeting Server, Jabber, Unity Voicemail, and managing/upgrading Cisco Unified Communications and Collaboration infrastructure (On Premise).
• Experience with OLT/PON.
• Experience with TCP MTU/MSS adjustments.
• Understanding of security using technologies such as reverse proxies, cross domain solutions, and load balancers.
