Job Description:
We are a high-growth solar business currently operating in the low seven figures and preparing to scale to eight figures. Our revenue model is commission-driven, partner-based, and cash-timing sensitive. As the business grows, we are transitioning from founder-managed finance to CFO-led financial ownership.
We are seeking an experienced Fractional CFO to take ownership of the company’s financial operations, reporting, cash flow, and strategic financial decision-making.
This is not a bookkeeping or advisory-only role. We are looking for a hands-on financial leader who can manage capital responsibly, build scalable systems, and support disciplined growth.
Scope of Work:
- Financial Ownership & Strategy
- Manage company finances with an owner-level mindset
- Support leadership in financially impactful decisions
- Help prepare the business to scale cleanly from low 7 to 8 figures
- Compensation & Payout Review
- Evaluate and optimize all compensation structures, including:
• Salaries
• Commissions
• Bonuses
• Overrides
• Contractor payouts
- Ensure incentive alignment with margins, cash flow, and scalability
- Identify and address margin leakage or misaligned incentives
- Payroll & Payments
- Run payroll for employees and contractors
- Ensure accurate and timely payouts
- Validate commission and bonus calculations
- Resolve discrepancies proactively
- Financial Reporting & Controls
- Monthly financial reporting and management dashboards
- Bank reconciliations and accounts payable oversight
- Budget vs. actual variance analysis
- Lead a monthly financial review meeting with leadership
- Provide clear, decision-ready financial insights
- Cash Flow & Forecasting

Build and maintain:
- Rolling 13-week cash flow forecasts
- 12-month forward projections
- Monitor liquidity and ensure growth does not outpace cash availability
- Perform ROI analysis on hiring, compensation changes, partners, and growth initiatives
- KPIs & Growth Planning
- Track and report on key financial KPIs, including:
- Gross and net margins
- Compensation as a percentage of revenue
- Cash collected vs. booked
- Partner payment timing
- Translate financial data into actionable growth recommendations
- Partner Payments & Revenue Accuracy
- Reconcile partner and installer payments against contracts and funded deals
- Ensure revenue is received accurately and on time
- Address delays or discrepancies with partners as needed
- Tax Strategy (in coordination with CPA)
- Support proactive tax planning and optimization
- Assist with entity structure and compensation strategy decisions
- Identify opportunities to reduce tax exposure as the business scales

Engagement Structure & Time Commitment:
This engagement is expected to be front-loaded, then taper over time:
• First 60–90 days: ~20–30 hours per week
• Ongoing: ~10–15 hours per week
Additional hours may be required during tax planning, compensation changes, or growth initiatives
Ideal Candidate:
- Proven experience as a CFO or Fractional CFO
- Experience with commission-based, cash-flow-sensitive businesses
- Comfortable owning payroll, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Strong judgment and ability to support leadership decisions
- Experience in solar, home services, or partner-driven revenue models is a plus
Compensation:
Hourly Range: $90–$140/hour
- Final rate will depend on qualifications, relevance of experience, and scope depth.
