Job Overview and Responsibilities
As a Youth Sport Clinic Coach with the Lafayette YMCA, you will play a vital role in teaching introductory through intermediate skills, rules of play, and the Y Way to Play to our young participants. Your expertise and enthusiasm will help shape the next generation of athletes, promoting a love for sports, teamwork, and healthy competition. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing engaging lesson plans to teach various sports skills, such as basketball, soccer, football, baseball, volleyball, and lacrosse
- Assisting in officiating games and ensuring clinics run smoothly and safely, with all activities starting and ending on schedule
- Interacting with parents, staff, and community members to provide a positive and supportive environment for our young athletes
- Breaking down complex skills into manageable parts and explaining them in a way that participants can understand and perform
- Organizing and engaging groups of children, promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun
Essential and Preferred Qualifications
To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you should meet the following essential qualifications:
- Be at least 16 years old
- Have significant involvement and understanding of the sport, with a passion for teaching and mentoring young athletes
- Obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification within 30 days of hire (we can provide assistance with this requirement)
- Ability to organize and engage groups of children, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred qualifications include:
- Previous experience coaching or teaching youth sports
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English, with a +10% differential offered for fluent staff
- Availability to work flexible hours, including Friday nights and Saturdays
