About the position

Responsibilities

  • Provide acute outpatient orthopedic injury care to adult and pediatric patients.
  • Lead a small clinical team consisting of an RN and MA/cast tech.
  • Perform comprehensive history and physical assessments.
  • Document findings noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings.
  • Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic labs and tests.
  • Form medical diagnoses based on history, assessment, and diagnostic findings.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans.
  • Prescribe and recommend pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Initiate appropriate specialty consultations and referrals when necessary.
  • Facilitate timely patient flow via collaboration with interdisciplinary team members.
  • Recognize acute/emergent situations requiring immediate responsiveness and initiate life-saving interventions.
  • Advocate for patients and family members in educational needs and treatment options.
  • Provide consultation in specialty area and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Participate in quality assurance initiatives and performance improvement activities.
  • Engage in research and evidence-based practice to improve patient care delivery.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree as an Advanced Practice Provider - Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • One to two years minimum experience as an Advanced Practice Provider Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant preferred.
  • License or license eligible as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) as set forth by the state of Virginia.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Current PALS/NRP certification as required specific to position.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification as required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using fluoroscopy and reading orthopedic radiographs.
  • Self-motivated learning and engagement in process and quality improvement initiatives.
